WooD ApPLe JuiCE

This post is about one of my favourite favourite fruit drinks in the world - Wood Apple juice :) I learnt just today that the fruit is also called "Elephant Apple".

For those of you who don't know about Wood Apple, it's a fruit that grows mainly in South Asia and some Southeast Asian countries. This has a hard shell or rind(to use the right word for it) and contains a pulp inside that turns from very light yellow to almost black-greyish when ripen. It doesn't sound very appetising but trust me, this is a fruit juice you really want to try. Exotic much? Exactly!

So, how do we make this surprisingly delicious drink? First, we've got to crack open that shell. No, not like how you would crack open a coconut. This rind isn't that difficult to crack; so you've got this. Always choose ripened fruit here because if you choose the not-so-ripened ones, you will be making a mistake! These are citrus fruits. So, they always taste sour-sweet in your mouth even when they are ripened

In order to crack open the fruit, I usually find a solid base(The floor, I mean) and smash the thing lightly on it. Then you can easily scoop out the pulp inside. This pulp will also have little White seeds which you don't have to remove. Get your blender and put the pulp in, along with some sugar (as much as you want), add some water and a generous amount of coconut milk (It now sounds divine, doesn't it?) Blend the mixture and add more coconut milk and sugar if you want to. Ta Da! You are done!

My advice is, you should drink it after being cooled in your refrigerator. That coolness and  tangy flavour of this drink go hand in hand so perfectly! It's a perfect summer drink! <3

Wood Apples have a vast array of health benefits and are packed with nutrients! It's good for your liver and kidney, regulates high blood pressure. It has antimicrobial properties and works as a digestive aid. These are some of the things I personally know. I've found a couple of articles which have more information if you want to read more about the amazing health benefits of this modest fruit. Click here and here.

That's all for this week. Will come back with more when I think about some :P
